PET RESCUE | Pet Sitter tells story about community helping save a dogs life.

Bella’s House & Pet Sitting’s facebook page is really a true community. Through a loyal participant of ours, Stevi, and the connections work of Bella’s we have really worked together to help save a life.

Around Memorial Day, there was a Australian Shepard mix that was found in Stevi’s neighborhood. Her neighbor

This is Stevi

agreed to take the dog in, but was not caring for it properly. In Az during the summer, temperatures are over 100 degrees! Unfortunately, as long as a “owner” provides water and shelter there is nothing authorities will do.

Stevi stepped in and really helped this situation. She started contacting us June 25th about the situation:

Bella, Have a bad situation. My next door neighbors kids found an Australian Shepherd and have decided they wanted him as a pet. PROBLEM: THEY KEEP HIM outside 24/7. spoke w/neighbor asked why he wasn’t kept indoors. He replied”"cuz he tears up the house”. I told him that the dog could not be left out and needed to be kennel trained. I loaned him a large kennel a month ago but “Oreo” is still out 24/7. I am livid. Any suggestions? Mine seem to be falling on deaf ears!

We suggested that she give the owner our blog about Heatstroke in dogs (http://www.scottsdalepetexpert.com/articles/heatstroke-and-your-dog-youd-be-suprised/) to help educated them.

Four days later Stevi wrote this:

Oreo is still outside. NO return phone call from neighbor. I got him to come to me. He was panting so bad. He was burning up.Was able to get a 8 oz Solo Cup of water through my fence. He drank most of it. I Cooled him down by wetting his feet and head. Gonna buy a bag of ice tom. Trying to hold back my tears, but just not working:((

Then a few days later Stevi wrote:

My neighbor is looking(or said he is) to find a Border Collie Rescue. Any connections at AZ Border Collie Rescue in Tempe? Oreo is so sweet. Killing me to see him suffering in the heat.

We suggested this website: http://www.azbordercollierescue.com/index.asp Warning – if you have a dog in the room when you pull it up, they will be alert! Lol They are the Arizona Border Collie Rescue group.

On July 7th Stevi wrote us back saying:

Thanks so much for your help with the Border Collie Rescue. We’re rollin! Pictures sent to their website and owner has release docs in his mailbox. They have someone that is ready for a Foster! Yay. He is so lovable! It’s so comforting to know that he will be loved very soon. Sweet Dreams for me tonight. Grace and Bella’s ROCK! ;)

On July 10th Stevi wrote:

My Neighbor called and he is taking Oreo to his new home today. A woman in Tucson wants him. She has a 3 yr old BC that needs a friend. She has a huge ranch and a special fancy play area her dog and does not work! PERFECT! He thanked me profusely for my help. YAY. Peace for all ;)

What an amazing story, huh?  I would like to personally draw attention to Stevi and her valiant efforts. She saw something that was disturbing and a living being that needed help. She took it upon herself to really push the “owner” in the right direction and inadventedly may have just SAVED Oreo’s life. I wish everyone was like this when it comes to pets. I would also like to thank the Arizona Border Collie Rescue Group for 1) being around 2)for helping out with this situation. If it weren’t for their organization and all their volunteers it would have been a lot tougher to help Oreo.

Being in the pet sitting industry, I am on the HAPPY side of things. The pets I deal with have loving parents that want to make sure they are provided with personalized, quality, love and care in the safety and security of their own home. I get to see the GREAT pet parents. Unfortunately there are people out there who do not get their pets spay or neutered, they dump puppies on the side of the road, they buy pets from a pet store, the unknowingly support puppy mills, and just think that if it isn’t their pet – it isn’t their problem.

Stevi – my hat off to you lady. Thank you for being a great pet lover and a great interactive member of our Facebook page!
