Journey To Pet Therapy Certification…How Do I Know?

All about Rocco…

Ever since Rocco found me, he has been the light of my life. Like most of you pet Moms and Dads out there can probably relate to, my pet IS my kid and means the word to me. From the day I got him I have been taking him out with me. We will sit at AJ’s or Starbucks on the patio, him drinking water, me sipping my iced tea, and working. He gets exposed to all sorts of people either passing him by, or approaching him.

I started bringing Rocco around other pets at an early age. We have many clients that love to have play dates, and friends with dogs too.  Rocco would play UP or DOWN depending on the pets size, and ended up with lots of “girlfriends.”  Quite adorable if you ask me!

It started by those touching breakfasts….

I have always gone to the Gabriel’s Angels breakfasts and never left with a dry eye. It has always impressed me with how much of an impact this local non profit has on the  kids in our community. I always wished to be in the position to be on one of their teams with my own dog.

And with a little encouragement…

So, while at lunch on day with a fellow pet sitter, Lara from Doggie Smyle, the topic of Rocco working with Gabriel’s Angels came up. Lara works on a team already for the organization and she was observing how friendly Rocco was to everyone who passed up by from small children to adults.  At this point, I already heard many times how much of a good boy he is, and of course I am totally in love with Rocco…so I always took what others said with a grain of salt. After our encouraging lunch, I was ready to start investigating the process of working with Gabriel’s Angels.

I soon learned that Rocco needed to be Pet Therapy Certified. That meant he needed to go through a program to show that he could be successful in any situation. So on the hunt I went. My search led me to Laura (another Laura!) who explained that she does this for free because she knows that we will be going out to the world and changing lives.

WOW.

I was impressed. We got on her schedule, starting a month later and we began our journey.

Follow along our journey to Part Two….
