"BHPS has been more then we expected in pet sitting. I feel comfortable knowing that my pets receive the care and attention I would provide if I were home. It's been an absolute joy to read the four legged care notes. Being a first time puppy owner, I appreciated many of the BHPS' suggestions and helpful advice. Thanks BHPS!"

Cat Litter | How to save money and help the environment at Petco

If you area environment conscious cat lover, this pet sitter has a money saving tip for you. Did you know that Petco offers a discount on their brand name litter if you bring your container back into the store to refill?

Petco Cat Litter Prices

I was walking through the store to pick up a few items for Rocco the Rockstar when I passed by what looked like a sand box. (It was!) It was a huge pile of cat litter so I had to take a closer look. Before I started playing, I took a few pictures for you all on my blackberry.

Instantly I though that it must be too good to be true, so I started “sifting” the litter right there in the store with the scoopers they provided to customers in the store. Being a cat sitter in Scottsdale, I see it all. Not all cat litters are created equal. Surprisingly, the Petco brand wasn’t too “dusty” and didn’t seem to messy at all. With a further look I did see that it was a clay based clumping litter which means it is suggested you only have to change the litter pan every three to four weeks.

Just think of how many plastic containers you go through a year with your cat. The offering by Petco to help the environment and reward those environmental conscious consumers is a great bonus. It actually works out to be 39% on the 16lb container and 25% on the larger one. Interesting numbers, huh? I suppose they want to keep you coming back and refilling the smaller one. Genius if you ask me!

As I was doing research for this blog, I found this important warning from SFGate.com:
Modern waste treatment doesn’t kill a pesky organism known as toxoplasma gondii. When water containing this parasite enters the ocean, it sickens and kills sea otter populations. Toxoplasma also causes disease in humans, especially the immune-compromised and pregnant women.
